This week I spent a lot of time uploading and publishing the first 4 modules of my online makerspace course using the LMS Schoology. I also spent time completely flushing out my entire outline for the course.

INTRODUCTORY VIDEO- Learners will watch the call to action video to get them thinking about makerspaces.
MAKERSPACES: WHAT IS IT?- Learners will go through a TES board that takes them through some videos, images and articles to give them more of an idea of what makerspaces are and get them thinking about makerspaces.
DISCUSSION BOARD- Learners will post their thoughts, questions and any experience they have to the Schoology discussion board.
EXPLORING THE MAKER MOVEMENT- Learners will explore articles and other published works of literature to shed light on the philosophies that provide the foundation of the maker movement, along with the soft skills they provide students with which prepare them for their futures.
MAKERSPACES: LIVE!- Learners will watch videos of makerspaces in action.
DISCUSSION BOARD- Learners will post 3-5 observations they made from the videos noting the student interactions they observed and the soft skills they witnessed students gaining on the Schoology discussion board.
WHAT MAKES A MAKERSPACE? START WITH THE STUDENTS- Learners will look at their own students research makerspaces that promote curiosity, creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration and inspires students to use the library in a new, innovative way.
ASSIGNMENT: MAKERSPACE SURVEY- Learners will send out the student survey in Schoology to their students or participants.
DISCUSSION BOARD- Learners will post results from their survey in the discussion post and discuss if anything surprised them from the survey and how their student feedback will affect the spaces they set up in their school/space.
MAKERSPACES OF ALL KINDS- Learners will learn about and research the different types of makerspaces out there. They will be using their student interest survey information to pick out spaces that promote curiosity, creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration and inspire students to use the space in a new, innovative way.
DISCUSSION BOARD- Learners will reflect on their favorite makerspaces and provide how they will appeal to their patrons and the soft skills it will equip their students with.
ASSIGNMENT: MAKERSPACE PLANNING SHEET- Learners will complete the makerspace planning sheet assignment in Schoology. This planning sheet will allow them to take what they have learned in the past 3 modules and put it into one sheet. Leaners will review what a makerspace is, record information about their students, plan out their spaces and makerspace goals.
DESIGNING A MAKERSPACE- Learners will learn about how to design a makerspace and the considerations to think through before planning their perfect space.
DISCUSSION BOARD- Learners will reflect on their design plan, problems they foresee and how they will conquer them. They will also point out how their design plan will meet the needs of their learners.
ASSIGNMENT: DESIGN TIME- Learners will design their space using an online floor planner, map, or some other platform.
SETTING EXPECTATIONS- Learners will discover how even in a makerspace there needs to be rules and expectations set in place for student safety and success. Learners will research about creating expectations in their space.
DISCUSSION BOARD- Learners will collaborate and discuss their expectations and rules and why they think it is important.
ASSIGNMENT: EVERY GAME HAS RULES- Learners will create rules and expectations for their makerspaces and determine a plan for communicating it to students and staff.
